SPARROW GRAPHIC DIGITAL COLLAGE SHEETS GIVEAWAY
FEBRUARY 16 – MARCH 2, 2010

Sparrow Graphic is one of my favorite shops on Etsy! Not only are the brains behind the shop (Edina & Daryle) super friendly and helpful – but the items they offer are also very cute, stylish, fun, modern and colorful.

Sparrow Graphic offers unique and contemporary digital designs ideal for making scrabble tile pendants, glass pendants and magnets, scrap booking, digi collages, craft projects, greeting cards, tags, stickers and etc.

Their range of designs include: quotes & sayings, birds and owls, cute easter themes, cute love heart critters, japanese / russian dolls, mod flora / pods, damask patterns, alphabet initials, vintage shapes, oriental wallpapers, cupcakes and many more abstract patterns and shapes! All of Sparrow Graphic’s designs are original and unique – created using Adobe Illustrator vector tools, which result in smooth shapes without any pixelization.

LisbonSky chats to Edina to find out more about Sparrow Graphic…

Q1: How did you find your calling in art/graphic design?
I grew up in a small town in Europe and spent much of my childhood outdoors playing in nature. My artistic leanings surfaced early in life and I explored many mediums such as pottery and drawing. I developed a passion for fine art and illustration and the urge to create led me to pursue a degree in Design after high school. After graduating with a Bachelor of Design I immediately landed a job in a corporate in-house studio. At times I felt restricted in my creativity and the long hours and stress were beginning to take their toll so I needed a creative outlet that would allow me to tune out the daily grind. I began to work as freelance designer part-time and also began to create jewelry. One thing led to another and I quit my day job…I have been creating ever since. I feel that I was born to be an entrepreneur. I’m a strong believer that if you really want to do something you love, you figure out a way to do it and you learn along the way. After being in that corporate environment for 7 years, I realized that I never ever wanted to have a boss, and that I wanted to be my own boss! By seeing what I did not want to do, I figured out what I did want to do, if that makes sense.

Q2: What inspires your work?
Much of my work is about form and colors found in nature. Animals are also a huge inspiration.

Q3: What made you decide to sell on Etsy?
A close friend sent me a link to Etsy and I was instantly hooked. It is a wonderful indie community that values handmade design. I felt that my work would be a great fit. I love that I get to express my creativity and share it with others. I love that every day is different and at the end of the day I feel that I accomplished something and made a difference. I also like seeing my graphics utilized by others to create fun accessories like scrabble tile pendants and bottlecap magnets – so cool!

Q4: What’s does your typical day look like?
Daryle and I have a full house with our 3 rescue dogs and 2 guinea pigs and my day normally starts with breakfast prep for furry ones while having our coffee in our PJ’s. I check my emails and answer important voice mails before I start anything else. My jewellery line keeps me busy during the day with creating for wholesale orders from local galleries and boutiques. I also help Daryle manage Sparrowgraphics on Etsy and design new digital sheets for the shop. We attempt to fit a work-out in before the day is done – but are not always successful ;-)

Q5: Share an interesting fact about yourself
My family arrived to Canada from Europe as political refugees with no possessions to our name.
