SCHIN LOONG’S ‘FANTASY ART’ NOTE CARD / PRINT GIVEAWAY
FEBRUARY 6 – 21, 2010

Based in Atlanta (USA), Schin Loong is an illustrator specializing in fantasy art. I found her on Etsy a few weeks ago and was instantly blown away by her immense talent! I’ve never seen such intricate, vibrant and beautiful illustrations like hers. Schin’s technique and level of detail is so extraordinary that her work could mistaken for photographs …Or even better than photographs! The women she portrays sparkles, with an ethereal and enchanting air about them.

Here we find out more about Schin…

Q1: How did you find your calling in fantasy art?
It came naturally after a childhood filled with comics and Disney cartoons.. I want to create and express my own world to inspire others.

Q2: Where can we find your work?
I have been freelancing professionally since I was 17. My work has appeared in Society of Illustrators Student Scholarship Competition 2008 and 2009, ImagineFX, Exotique 5, Darkstalkers Tribute Art Book and Popcorn Magazine.

Q3: What inspires your work?
It could be anything… the colors on a golden puppy, a piece of music that I love, beautiful colors and artwork, a sunset. I think this world is full of inspiration and it’s up to us to recognize them.

Q4: Briefly describe the process of your work
I first start with a feeling that I want to capture. Then I do a sketch with the elements I want to add in the painting, do the lineart of the art and fill in color until I feel it is done.

Q5: What’s does your typical day look like?
Besides the hours I allocate for sleeping, cooking, eating and bathing, I will be painting or thinking about painting!

Q6: Share an interesting fact about yourself
Up until 1-2 years ago, I didn’t like using too much green in my work (because it reminded me too much of caterpillars, which I absolutely detest). But then, one of my most popular paintings The Four Beauties featured the Concubine Yang in green and everyone just fell in love with her. I have since experimented with many green-themed works and it’s quite a lovely, expressive color.

For this feature giveaway, one lucky reader will win one of Schin’s  gorgeous “The Brief Glimpse ” 4 x 6 inch greeting / note card (which can double up as a print, ready for framing). The card is professionally printed on photo quality, archival glossy Kodak paper – so colors are intense and bright. The card is blank inside, while the back includes Schin’s personal red wax seal (see below).

The giveaway will run from Feb 6-21, 2010 (till 11:59 pm Australian EST). I will use Random.org to pick the winning entry. Winners will have 48 hours to claim their prize… otherwise a new winner will be picked.
