THIMBLYTHINGS ‘KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON’
PHOTO PRINT GIVEAWAY

Thimblythings’s shop on Etsy is one of my recent exciting finds! The shop took my breath away and not only do they offer a diverse range of goodies – all Thimblythings creations possess a lovely whimsical and quirky ‘handmade’ look about them. From handmade mobiles to wall hangings, cozies, soft books and photograph prints – a fusion of cheery bright colors, vintage textures and fabrics are incorporated into the designs. I especially love the way hand-cut words are photographed against a range of tactile surfaces.

Kristena, the artist behind Thimblythings, describes herself as a maker of all things. She loves vintage stuff, refashioning old clothes, taking pictures and a whole host of other crafty things. Here Kristena tells us more about herself…

Q1: Tell us the idea behind your shop?
The Thimbly Things Shop came out of a couple of years of blogging and making. I always hoped to open shop, but I was too timid. While my dream is to eventually sell clothing, I realized that I needed to just open shop and start with whatever I love. And I love a lot! I have several photographs available in my shop right now, but I also have cloud mobiles and cheerful potholders. You can see more of my eclectic work on my blog.

Q2: What inspires you?
I’m inspired by thrift store junk with potential, antique store vintage goods, modern design, and messy children. I come from generations of artists, and I just can’t separate art from every day life. There’s poetry to be found in it all, whether bittersweet or joyous.

Q3: What’s does your typical day look like?
I’m primarily a stay-at-home mommy, so most of my morning is spent trying to squeeze in a shower and a cup of coffee while taking care of, entertaining, and educating my two small children. But during the afternoon, I usually get about 2 hours of alone time to work. Thus, I keep a detailed and ever-changing list of what I want to accomplish each day, and I keep it in a place I pass often so I can update it whenever an idea strikes me. It’s all about being prepared! Then when I get my free time, I pull out the scissors, turn on the iron, scatter my pins and needles, and stick to the list. Around 5 PM, the nightly routine begins: I tend to babies, make dinner, eat dinner, give baths, clean up whilst my husband reads stories, and collapse on the couch in exhaustion (and often with the Mac).

Q4: Share an interesting fact about yourself.
The only real art class I took during my 4 years of college was an oil painting class at a neighboring school. It was then, in the last semester of my senior year, that I realized “making” was the only kind of work that would satisfy me.

Q5: What can we expect next for thimblythings?
Alphabet posters, cheerful kitchen cozies and accessories, stuffed toys, and clothing. I have a lot in my queue!
